Tennis pro Philipp Kohlschreiber as a brand ambassador at ATP tournaments reaches a wide audience
For Maui Jim, sports sponsorship and testimonials – including that of Phillipp Kohlschreiber, German tennis professional and brand ambassador – are decisive in their brand presentation. During the annual ATP tournaments at Hamburg Rothenbaum, it was our assignment to publicly position Kohlschreiber as a credible brand carrier.
In conventional tennis reporting, the players’ sponsoring partners are often scarcely visible. This means that the connection between the athlete and the brand must be staged by clever PR support and creative PR images. Both the image and the story must stand out from amongst the mass of tournament coverage.
For two years in a row, we designed and implemented corresponding events that reached and engaged dozens of editors of the most influential trade and consumer media. The entire event focused on who was playing with and against the tennis pro. In 2014 we even created a new kind of sport and thus a campaign that resulted in unforgettable moments, images and stories away from the regular court. At the Hamburg Golf Lounge, Kohlschreiber competed against sports editors in this new discipline called “tennisgolf”. The match was attended by a host of local leading media and special interest magazines (golf & tennis). As a result, through online and offline reporting, we achieved extensive coverage and were able to stand out amongst the flood of images of the ATP tournament.
